President Joe Biden’s administration reportedly came under fire from Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, for insisting that Leonardo DiCaprio memes be taken off from the company’s platforms.
In an interview with Joe Rogan that was released on Friday, the billionaire internet tycoon talked about the political censorship that Meta’s platforms have been subjected to for the past ten years. Zuckerberg recently ended the company’s fact-checking initiative on Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta platforms in the United States.
Zuckerberg disclosed on the Joe Rogan Experience show that Biden administration officials had called his team and yelled and cursed at him about memes.
“I mean, basically, these people from the Biden administration would call up our team and like scream at them and curse. And it’s like these documents are it’s all kind of out there-” Zuckerberg said.
“Did you record any of those phone calls? I don’t know.” Rogan replied.
“I don’t think we’ve…there are emails, the emails are published. It’s all it’s all kind of out there. And and they’re like — and basically it just got to this point where we were like, no, we’re not going to we’re not going to take down things that are true. That’s ridiculous. They want us to take down this meme of Leonardo DiCaprio looking at a TV, talking about how ten years from now or something, you know, you’re going to see an ad that says, okay, if you took a Covid vaccine, you’re eligible for, you know, like for this kind of payment, like this sort of like class action lawsuit type meme.” Zuckerberg responded.
“And they’re like, no, you have to take that down. And we said, no, we’re not going to take down humor and satire. We’re not going to take down things that are true. And then at some point, I guess. And it flipped a bit. I mean, Biden, when he was he gave some statement at some point.” he added.
“I don’t know if his press conference or to some journalists were basically was like, these guys are killing people. And then like all these different agencies and branches of government basically just like started investigating coming after our company. It was brutal.” Zuckerberg concluded.
