Former President Donald Trump reportedly recently criticized actor George Clooney following Clooney’s appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes. Trump took to Truth Social to express his disdain for Clooney, labeling him a “second-rate movie star” and a “failed political pundit.”

This outburst came after Clooney discussed his latest Broadway role portraying Edward R. Murrow, a notable CBS journalist from the 1950s, in a stage adaptation of the film Good Night, and Good Luck.

During his commentary, Trump accused CBS of producing a “puff piece” aimed at reviving Clooney’s image and downplaying the turmoil surrounding the Biden administration, suggesting that Clooney had previously abandoned Biden after the debates to support Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump also alleged that CBS manipulated Harris’s interview, which is a central focus of his ongoing $10 billion lawsuit against the network for alleged editing inaccuracies.

Simultaneously, Clooney reiterated his stance from a recent New York Times op-ed, where he urged President Biden to step down, criticizing his party for “cowardice.”

He expressed feeling compelled to share his views due to the current political climate, which he likened to McCarthyism, emphasizing the vital importance of press freedom.

Clooney’s comments and critiques of Biden seem to have struck a chord with Trump, prompting his vitriolic response, which criticized not only Clooney’s political insights but also the media’s handling of political narratives in the lead-up to elections.

Trump’s remarks underscore his continued interest in celebrity political commentary and its impact on public perception.

The back-and-forth highlights the entanglement of Hollywood and politics, a recurring theme in contemporary American media.
