A Democratic Senate candidate who has collected millions of dollars in his effort to replace Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa) was accused of sexually abusing his former campaign manager last week. MSNBC, CNN, and other major news outlets have failed to cover the issue.
Democrat Senate candidate Mike Franken has so far collected more than $4.6 million in donations and received endorsements from a series of high-profile Democrats such as Sens. Mark Kelly (Ariz.) and Tim Kaine (Va.). Nevertheless his campaign has struggled, as he remains significantly behind in the polls when compared to his GOP rival Senator Chuck Grassley.
His campaign got more bad news on September 19th however, when he was accused of forcibly kissing his former campaign manager Kim Strope-Boggus, according to an April police investigation.
Boggus filed an official police report concerning the incident.
But you might have missed this political bombshell if you receive your news only from MSNBC or CNN, which haven’t yet given the alleged sexual misbehavior a single second of coverage.
Similarly, established media outlets such as the New York Times and Washington Post have also neglected to cover the charges.
According to the police investigation, Franken’s legal team persuaded Strope-Boggus not to talk about her removal from the campaign.
Iowa Republican Party members have since pressed Franken to release Strope-Boggus from her nondisclosure agreement. Which is apparently being used to keep her silent.
According to Franken’s campaign however, there is nothing stopping Strope-Boggus from coming out with her side of the story
After communicating with the county attorney, who ruled that no criminal conduct had occurred, the Des Moines Police Department decided not to pursue the issue further.
When contacted Strope-Boggus stated that she will not comment further on the issue.
Franken’s opponent, Republican Chuck Grassley currently has a 7.3 percentage advantage in the race, according to data compiled by FiveThirtyEight.
