A new poll now appears to indicate that former presidents Trump and Biden both suffered a decline in popularity in Iowa, the first state to hold presidential primaries.
Trump’s popularity is currently at 49 percent among Iowa Republican caucus voters, down from 62 percent in May, according to an Emerson College poll. In the meantime, a survey of Democratic caucus voters in Iowa revealed that Biden currently had 50 percent of the vote, down from 69 percent in May.
Both former vice president Mike Pence and Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R) saw a decline in support from May; Pence’s support fell from 5% to 3%, while DeSantis’ support fell from 20% to 14%.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and conservative businessman Vivek Ramaswamy both increased by 5 points, giving the impression that they were gaining support. Ramaswamy saw an increase from 2% to 7%, and Scott saw an increase from 3% to 8%.
Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, and Doug Burgum, governor of North Dakota, both saw modest raises of 2 points each. Haley’s support increased from 5% to 7%, and Burgum’s support increased from 1% to 3%.
According to the survey, 6% of Republican caucus participants were unsure about how they felt about the various candidates.
With a sample of 893 registered voters in Iowa, the Emerson College survey was carried out from September 7 to 9. The poll has a 3.2 percentage point margin of error.
