A veteran U.S. Army Special Forces soldier who was mentoring volunteers was reportedly killed by Russian artillery fire in the besieged Ukrainian city of Bakhmut. The victim was a citizen of the United States.
Army Staff Sgt. Nicholas Maimer, a 45-year-old former soldier, was in a structure that fell earlier this week after being struck by artillery fire, according to various reports from retired Lt. Col. Perry Blackburn, the president of the charity group AFGfree, with which Maimer was working in Ukraine.
Înainte of retiring in 2018, Maimer worked for 20 years.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the CEO of the Russian private military firm Wagner, said in a video uploaded on the Wagner Group’s Telegram account on Tuesday to have seen the body of an American.
A corpse and what Prigozhin claimed to be identity cards were shown being examined by him.
Last night, Evgeniy Prigozhin posted picture of eliminated US soldier in Bakhmut.
His name is Nicholas (Nick) Dwain Maimer from Boise, Idaho, US.

The body in the video was recognized as Maimer’s by Blackburn and his uncle Paul Maimer.
In the video, Prigozhin declared that his soldiers will turn him over to the Americans.
After Russia’s invasion, thousands of volunteers from the West went to help the Ukrainian military.
