The U.S. Secret Service is examining a video circulated by Iranian sources that appears to threaten Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest son.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring said.
“Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence,” Herring added.
The video shows several locations associated with the 20-year-old Trump and presents them in the context of an assassination. It concludes by suggesting that a $10 million reward may be available.
Iranian officials and state-linked media outlets have repeatedly threatened Trump and members of his family since his first term in office. The threats intensified following the January 2020 U.S. airstrike that killed Iranian Gen. Qasem Soleimani, an operation ordered by Trump.
U.S. officials have said threats from Iran and its proxies remain a focus of security efforts surrounding the president.
“I don’t think it’s any secret, it’s been in the media, that Iran has publicly said they want to kill President Trump,” Deputy Director of the U.S. Secret Service Matt Quinn told reporters at an event last month.
Barron Trump has generally maintained a lower public profile than other members of the president’s family. He most recently appeared publicly at the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14.
