Tucker Carlson escalated his criticism of President Donald Trump on Monday, accusing the president of being the most “flamboyantly corrupt” leader in American history during an interview with Hunter Biden.
Carlson argued that while the United States has endured plenty of “bad leaders” since its founding, he believes no president has ever been as corrupt as Trump.
Hunter Biden then said he did not want to blame Trump for all of the country’s problems but criticized the president over the national debt, saying it was absurd that Trump was “responsible” for 20% of the country’s debt since its inception.
“Yeah, it’s bonkers,” Carlson responded.
Carlson also explained why he supported Trump during the 2024 election, saying he believed Trump had been unfairly targeted by what he called the “uniparty” while the president was out of office.
But the former Fox News host said his relationship with Trump changed after the president ignored Carlson’s plea not to launch the Iran war earlier this year.
Carlson acknowledged the decision made him “mad” and said he felt “humiliated” after believing he could persuade Trump against taking military action.
Carlson said his “sin” was thinking he could talk the president out of launching the war.
His latest corruption accusation also comes after Carlson spent years leveling similar allegations against Hunter Biden and former President Joe Biden.
During his time at Fox News in 2022, Carlson called it the “definition of corruption” that the FBI, he alleged, “continues to suppress” information involving Hunter Biden and Joe Biden’s business dealings in Europe.
Carlson also hosted a multi-part Fox News series titled “Biden, Inc.,” where he scrutinized Hunter Biden’s business activities.
“No responsible investor would ever hand money to Jim or Hunter Biden,” Carlson said at the time.
Carlson argued that their value came from their connection to Joe Biden and claimed that relationship helped them secure numerous deals around the world.
“Their only value, and their personal texts make it clear, came from their connection to Joe Biden,” Carlson said. “On the basis of that connection, they made dozens of deals all over the world, mostly in foreign countries famous for corruption, places like Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Romania.”
Carlson’s criticism has increasingly turned toward Trump in 2026.
In July, Carlson branded Trump a “weak” man and accused the president of being controlled by Israel amid the Iran war.
His rhetoric intensified again last week when Carlson described Trump as “homicidal” and claimed the president had proven himself “incapable” of leading the United States.
Monday’s interview with Hunter Biden continued that increasingly hostile posture, with Carlson moving from attacking individual Trump policies and leadership decisions to accusing the president of unprecedented corruption.
Despite supporting Trump in 2024, Carlson made clear his assessment of the president has changed considerably, with the Iran war emerging as a major source of his anger toward the administration.
