Left-wing social media influencer Hasan Piker is reportedly standing by a controversial moment in which he unleashed a barrage of vulgar insults at a Vietnamese refugee who supports President Donald Trump.
Piker came under harsh criticism earlier this year over remarks he made during a past livestream. During that stream, Piker watched a clip of a Vietnamese woman explaining why she backed Trump.
Piker, who has sparked controversy this cycle by campaigning alongside Democratic Party candidates, responded to the clip with a profanity-laced rant aimed squarely at the woman.
“I mean, seriously, fck you, old lady. Shut the fck up, you stupid fcking idiotic old lady, with your stupid fcking gamer headset,” Piker said.
He then went further, invoking the communist leader of North Vietnam.
“Who has fcked you harder, America or fcking Ho Chi Minh? Suck my d*ck, old lady! Goddamn, dude!” he said.
Piker continued to lash out at the woman over her status as a refugee.
“Yo, fck this refugee, OK? Seriously. Fck this South Vietnamese motherfcking, whatever– like, Christian supremacist, psychotic fcking refugee, living in America now and able to talk that shit,” Piker said.
He capped off the tirade by suggesting the woman should leave the country.
“Why don’t you go back and live in fucking South Vietnam in the same conditions if that’s your perspective,” he said.
Now, rather than walk back the remarks, Piker is defending them.
In his latest interview with Ziwe, which premiered Sunday, Piker was given the opportunity to address some of his past comments that he felt had been taken out of context.
When the conversation turned to the incident involving the refugee, Piker pointed to the woman’s politics. He said she was a MAGA supporter and made clear he refused to extend any grace to someone who holds those beliefs.
“I feel like if you’re MAGA, if you’re right-wing, if you’re a Nazi,” Piker said, “you know, I’m going to be vulgar with you. It doesn’t matter.”
In the same breath, Piker grouped MAGA supporters and right-wingers together with Nazis as people he believes deserve vulgar treatment.
He went on to argue that the woman’s background as a refugee should not shield her from criticism, accusing her of engaging in identity politics.
“I don’t think you get to do identity politics at that point,” Piker said. “You can’t utilize your background to say that you’re under attack when the policies that you’re advancing and advocating for are unbelievably harmful for not only the Asian-American population, but every Black and brown person in this country, and immigrants and refugees alike.”
In other words, Piker maintained that because the woman supports Trump and the MAGA movement, she gives up the ability to point to her own background as a refugee.
The comments make clear that Piker, despite the harsh criticism he faced earlier this year and his high-profile campaign appearances with Democratic candidates, is not backing down from his attack on the pro-Trump refugee.
