Former President Trump reportedly cautioned Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over the weekend not to mount a presidential primary to run against him in 2024, calling such a move “extremely disloyal.”
Trump dubbed DeSantis a “globalist” in a series of statements to reporters and late-night posts on Truth Social, chastised him for Florida’s response to the COVID lockdowns, and claimed credit for his electoral success.
DeSantis, who is said to be mulling a White House bid, has not engaged Trump.
DeSantis is currently riding a wave of popularity that spans the country since his massive reelection victory in November of 2022.
Trump’s assault on DeSantis was strained, considering that Florida was one of the first states to reopen and DeSantis has been a vocal opponent of vaccination requirements and protracted school closings.
Despite the fact that Florida schools were closed for the final semester of 2020, and DeSantis issued an executive order barring bars and nightclubs in March of that year, he lifted the order six months later, making him a target of leftist cable news outlets and Democratic legislators.
Schools in Florida returned students to classrooms in the fall of 2020.
Trump also slammed DeSantis on COVID vaccinations, stating that DeSantis’ position had shifted dramatically.
DeSantis asked and received permission from the Florida Supreme Court last month to appoint a grand jury to examine alleged malfeasance related to vaccinations.
Trump has maintained his position on the vaccinations, citing their creation as one of his greatest accomplishments during “Operation Warp Speed.”

Trump also alleged in a late Sunday Truth Social post that DeSantis and his donors are “globalists.”
