The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has reportedly declared its support for former President Donald Trump’s return to Facebook, claiming that the public is “quite interested” in hearing his speech.
Meta, Facebook’s parent company, unbanned Trump from the social media network on Wednesday after a two-year suspension imposed in response to his postings about the Jan. 6 Capitol brawl.
The ban was scheduled to be lifted on January 7, but Meta took weeks to set the new account requirements.

During Trump’s administration, the ACLU filed nearly 400 legal lawsuits against him.
Following Trump’s declaration of his presidential candidacy for 2024, the group announced that it will be prepared to file more legal measures against him during his second administration.
The decision to ban President Trump sparked intense debate and controversy in the wake of the Capitol riot of January 6th, 2o21 with many conservatives claiming that it is a violation of the former President’s freedom of speech and an attempt to silence conservative voices.
Twitter was the first platform to permanently ban President Trump, citing the “risk of further incitement of violence.” Facebook and Instagram soon followed suit, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg stating that “the risk to public safety is simply too great.”
