Conservative commentator Ann Coulter sharply criticized President Donald Trump on Monday over his decision to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, arguing that the visit created major disruptions for fans, law enforcement, and the surrounding area.

Trump’s attendance at the highly anticipated matchup had been confirmed several days before the game. In preparation for the president’s arrival, the Knicks announced a series of heightened security measures for spectators entering Madison Square Garden.

According to the team, fans would face a strict no-bag policy and TSA-style security screenings. The organization also encouraged attendees to arrive at the arena two hours before tipoff in anticipation of delays caused by the additional security procedures.

While such measures are common when a sitting president attends a major public event, the restrictions nevertheless altered the experience for thousands of basketball fans hoping to enjoy one of the biggest games of the season.

The impact extended beyond those holding tickets to the game itself. Outside Madison Square Garden, a planned watch party that had generated significant excitement among fans was canceled, adding to frustration surrounding the logistical challenges created by the president’s visit.

Coulter, who has at times been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters and at other times one of his most pointed critics, did not hold back in expressing her displeasure over the decision.

Taking to social media, she argued that the inconvenience imposed on ordinary fans outweighed any benefit of having the president attend the game in person.

“Of all the selfish, narcissistic things Trump has done, attending MSG to see the Knicks play in person Monday night is the absolute worst,” Coulter wrote.

She pointed to the additional security measures, the cancellation of the watch party, the anticipated traffic problems, and the deployment of additional law enforcement officers as reasons for her criticism.

“20,000 attendees will be MASSIVELY inconvenienced for all the extra security, the Knicks Watch Party at Garden Is canceled, thousands of extra law enforcement officers will be required (paid for by taxpayers), traffic will be a disaster — all so he can sit in the Garden rather than watch the game on TV,” she continued.

Coulter concluded her remarks by suggesting that presidents should be willing to accept personal sacrifices in order to avoid creating burdens for the public.

“Presidents ought to be willing to sacrifice once in awhile,” she added.

The criticism highlighted a recurring debate that often emerges whenever high-profile political figures attend major public events. Large-scale security operations are designed to protect public officials, but they can also lead to road closures, longer wait times, increased police deployments, and disruptions for local residents and event attendees.

In this case, the cancellation of the Madison Square Garden watch party became one of the most visible consequences of the enhanced security footprint surrounding the game.

With the original watch party no longer taking place, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that an alternative viewing event would be held in Bryant Park. According to the mayor, the gathering would be able to accommodate as many as 5,000 fans.

The controversy underscored the tension between presidential security requirements and the everyday experience of the public. While supporters may view a presidential appearance at a major sporting event as a moment of excitement, critics such as Coulter argued that the costs and disruptions imposed on thousands of people raise legitimate questions about whether such appearances are always worth the inconvenience.
