President Donald Trump moved quickly to applaud Meta’s latest leadership shakeup after the tech giant appointed one of his former national security advisers to a powerful new role, marking the second high-profile hire from Trump’s orbit in just weeks.

Meta announced Monday that Dina Powell McCormick will serve as the company’s new president and vice chair, placing her firmly inside the firm’s senior management team. The newly created position gives Powell McCormick a broad mandate to help guide Meta’s corporate strategy and execution at a critical moment for the company.

Trump wasted no time welcoming the move, praising both Powell McCormick and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post on Truth Social.

“Congratulations to DINA POWELL MCCORMICK, WHO HAS JUST BEEN NAMED THE NEW PRESIDENT OF META. A great choice by Mark Z!!! She is a fantastic, and very talented, person, who served the Trump Administration with strength and distinction!” Trump wrote.

Powell McCormick brings deep experience from both government and the private sector. During Trump’s first administration, she served as deputy national security adviser, playing a key role in shaping foreign policy. Before that, she held senior positions at the State Department under former President George W. Bush, giving her experience across multiple Republican administrations.

In announcing the appointment, Zuckerberg highlighted Powell McCormick’s global background and leadership credentials. He said her experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her international relationships, makes her uniquely qualified to help Meta navigate its next phase of growth.

“Dina’s experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth as the company’s President and Vice Chairman,” Zuckerberg said in a statement.

Powell McCormick’s return to Meta’s leadership comes after a brief hiatus from the company’s board. She joined Meta’s board of directors in April but stepped down in December, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Her reemergence in an executive role signals a deeper operational involvement rather than an advisory position.

Outside of government, Powell McCormick spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, where she built a long career in global finance. More recently, she worked as a senior executive at BDT & MSD Partners, according to CNBC, further cementing her reputation as a seasoned operator with experience bridging politics, finance, and corporate leadership.

Her appointment is also notable for what it signals about Meta’s recent hiring direction. Just two weeks earlier, the company named Curtis Joseph Mahoney, a former deputy U.S. trade representative during Trump’s first term, as its new chief legal officer. The back-to-back hires suggest Meta is increasingly drawing from experienced figures with strong ties to Republican administrations and U.S. government service.

For Trump, the move represents another sign that alumni of his administration are continuing to land influential roles in major American companies. His enthusiastic response underscored that point, as well as his continued interest in how major tech platforms are run.

With Powell McCormick stepping into a top executive position and other former Trump officials joining Meta’s leadership ranks, the company appears to be betting on seasoned political and financial expertise as it charts its future.
