President Donald Trump revealed Monday that he will host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House in 2026 for a formal State Visit — the latest step in Trump’s high-level diplomacy as he works to secure U.S. interests on trade, national security, and the fentanyl crisis.

In a TruthSocial post, Trump said he and Xi spoke by phone about “Ukraine/Russia, Fentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products, etc.” During the call, Trump agreed to visit Beijing in April, and Xi accepted Trump’s reciprocal invitation for a State Visit later in the year.

“Our relationship with China is extremely strong!” Trump wrote. “This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea three weeks ago. Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate.”

Trump added that both leaders are now “setting our sights on the big picture” and emphasized the importance of continued communication between the two countries.

Trump and Xi last met in October during Trump’s week-long trip through Asia. Following that meeting, Trump announced several breakthroughs on issues that had been longstanding points of contention under previous administrations.

According to Trump, China agreed to:

  • Increase purchases of U.S. soybeans and other agricultural goods

  • Help combat the deadly fentanyl crisis by cracking down on chemical precursors

  • Continue supplying rare earth materials, critical minerals, and magnets — key components for U.S. manufacturing, defense systems, and technology

Trump noted that China had previously threatened to restrict the flow of rare earth minerals, which would have severely disrupted American manufacturing and defense capabilities. He credited his negotiations for ensuring the supply remains uninterrupted.

He also hinted that Beijing may soon engage in a “very large transaction” with the United States, potentially signaling a major trade agreement in the works.

Monday’s phone call, Trump said, was intended to build on the momentum of their October meeting and further secure U.S. leverage ahead of his April visit to Beijing.

The upcoming State Visit from Xi in 2026 would mark another milestone in Trump’s approach to China — one that blends toughness with strategic engagement. While China posed significant challenges under previous administrations, Trump has consistently argued that only through strong, direct diplomacy backed by American strength can the U.S. extract meaningful concessions from Beijing.

With fentanyl deaths still devastating communities and China holding enormous leverage in global supply chains, Trump’s diplomatic strategy aims to secure favorable terms while maintaining stability in an increasingly volatile world.

The White House is expected to release further details about the 2026 State Visit as planning progresses.
