President Trump blasted Bill Maher as a “complete, total loser” and a “sleazebag” in a sweeping 1,322-word Truth Social post Sunday, claiming the comic “looked like hell” during their recent dinner at the White House.
The post was Trump’s longest on record, according to Factbase.
The broadside came after the 70-year-old “Real Time” host claimed Friday that the president “has the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever.” Maher also joked that his four-hour dinner with Trump on Oct. 15 lasted longer than Katie Zacharia’s stint as press secretary.
“Let’s talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher. He’s got a Low Rated Show on equally Low Rated HBO,” Trump wrote.
The president also took aim at producer Chuck LaBella, who worked with Maher on his former ABC show “Politically Incorrect” and previously worked on “The Apprentice,” whom Trump described as a “gofer.” Trump claimed LaBella repeatedly called him to relay how much Maher “loves” and respects him and to request meetings.
Trump said he agreed to meet with Maher but would never appear on his show, insisting, “It won’t happen!”
Firing back at Maher’s approval rating claim, Trump accused the comic of citing “fake polls” and pointed to a CNN poll he said shows him at 98 and 99% support within the Republican Party. He also cited a CNN poll he said ranked him as the most popular person in the party’s history.
“So, Bill Maher lied, but he lies about everything,” Trump wrote, before questioning what “Laughter Machine” Maher uses on his show.
Maher has dined at the White House twice. Trump, Maher, Kid Rock and UFC chief Dana White dined there on March 31, 2025, and Maher, Trump and Stephen A. Smith dined there on Oct. 15.
Trump claimed Maher “invited himself” and was “very nervous” during their first meeting.
“He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!” Trump wrote.
The president also claimed Maher is a “major pothead” and alleged the comic was drunk and carrying alcohol as he walked through the White House.
Trump disputed Maher’s account of the dinner’s length, saying it lasted “two hours, maybe less.”
“We have the timestamps. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time,” he wrote.
Trump also pushed back on a joke Maher made to Karoline Leavitt about turning the White House press pool into a swimming pool.
“I am not building a swimming pool in the White House Briefing Room, and never had any intention of doing so,” Trump said, adding that he is considering moving the press to a different location.
He praised Leavitt’s appearance, writing she “was GREAT on the show,” and accused Maher of lying about illegal voters in California, claiming 20,000 had been found and the number “could easily go to over 1,000,000.”
“You’re not transformative, you’re a Loser!” Trump wrote, vowing never to watch Maher’s show again.
Trump signed off in his signature style: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
