If China doesn’t reverse its retaliatory tariff rise on the United States, President Trump has now reportedly warned he intends to impose an extra 50% tariff on the country beginning Wednesday.

China, the world’s second-largest economy behind the United States, announced last week that it would impose an additional 34% tariff on all U.S. goods beginning Thursday.

In a Monday morning social media tweet, Trump also announced that negotiations to set up meetings with China would come to an end.

He added, “The United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China if China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long-term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025.” After the president’s post, indexes fell on the news.
