On Monday, President Donald Trump reportedly declared that building a shield resembling the Iron Dome for the United States is a high priority and demanded that “immediate” work be done on the project before issuing an executive order.

Trump made the comments Monday when praising his newly appointed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth at a Republican dinner in Florida.

“Pete Hegseth, who’s going to be great, by the way… I think he’s going to be fantastic. I know him very well. I think he’s going to be fantastic.” Trump said.

“He’s what we need, to immediately begin the construction of a state-of-the-art Iron Dome missile defense shield, which will be able to protect Americans.” he added.

“And now we have phenomenal technology. You see that with Israel. So I think the United States is entitled to that. And everything will be made right here in the USA 100%.” Trump continued.

“We’re going next to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world.” he concluded.

He stated on the plane that he had signed an executive order for the Iron Dome after landing at Joint Base Andrews that evening.

Trump had previously mentioned an Iron Dome for the United States. Trump mentioned the initiative at the Commander-in-Chief inaugural ball on January 20.

“We’re also doing the Iron Dome all made in America. We’re going to have a nice Iron Dome.” Trump had said at the time.

On the 2024 campaign trail, the Republican leader again made mention to the idea.
