President Donald Trump has reportedly now announced that he will personally fund the installation of two nearly 100-foot-tall American flags at the White House, emphasizing that the presidential residence has “needed flagpoles for 200 years.”
During a visit to the grounds, Trump was seen with White House staff discussing the locations for the flagpoles, which will be erected on the North and South Lawns.
“We’re putting up a beautiful, almost 100-foot-tall American flag on this side and another one on the other side, two flags, top of the line,” Trump stated to reporters.
Currently, the only American flag at the White House is displayed atop the building itself, making this addition a significant change to the exterior appearance of the residence.
Trump explained that the new flagpoles will enhance visibility from various angles around the property. “They needed flagpoles for 200 years,” he remarked, noting the historical absence of freestanding flagpoles.
The flags are expected to arrive next week, and Trump reiterated that he would be covering the costs himself.
This patriotic addition is part of a series of changes Trump has implemented since returning to office, including renovations to the Oval Office and plans to rebuild the Rose Garden with a more practical artificial platform for events.
He also previously proposed constructing a $100 million ballroom to accommodate ceremonies, though he reported not receiving a response during the Biden administration.
In addition to these projects, Trump recently participated in planting a replacement for the historic Jackson Magnolia on the South Lawn, using a golden shovel for the planting of a sapling descended from the original tree.
These updates at the White House reflect Trump’s commitment to enhancing the presidential residence’s appearance and functionality.
