President Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on Elon Musk over the weekend, deriding the billionaire entrepreneur’s newly announced “American Party” as a reckless and destabilizing endeavor. In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed Musk’s political breakaway as a “ridiculous” effort that would sow “complete and total disruption and chaos.”

“I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks,” Trump wrote, accusing the Tesla founder of undermining political stability. “The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of complete and total disruption and chaos.”

The salvo followed Musk’s Saturday announcement on Twitter that he was forming a new political movement to challenge the two-party system. Musk cited public support for the idea, claiming, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” He framed the new “America Party” as a vehicle to “give you back your freedom.”

The rupture between the two figures—once viewed as political allies—marks a sharp reversal in a high-profile relationship, noted CNBC. Musk previously backed Trump’s re-election campaign financially and was tapped to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a short-lived initiative aimed at trimming federal bureaucracy.

Their alliance began to fray following the passage of a July 4 tax and spending bill that eliminated tax incentives for electric vehicle buyers—a key industry interest for Musk. The policy shift, which Trump championed, drew strong opposition from Musk, who had also advocated for broader EV adoption policies.

Trump, in his remarks, lashed out at what he called Musk’s push for an “Electric Vehicle Mandate,” claiming it would have “forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time.” He reiterated his skepticism toward third parties, arguing, “We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party systemstarting a third party just adds to confusion.”

The clash exposes deeper ideological fissures—Musk has recently warned that Trump’s fiscal agenda could steer the economy toward insolvency, while Trump has continued to defend the GOP’s platform as the most viable path forward for national renewal.
