Former Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) voiced his disapproval of President Trump’s decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals who were jailed during the riot that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Among those who were released were some who had caused harm to law enforcement officers. At least six hundred insurgents have been legally accused of attacking, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officials to some degree.
“No one should excuse violence. And particularly violence against police officers,” McConnell said in a new statement to Semafor.
“Well, I think I agree with the vice president, No one should excuse violence. And particularly violence against police officers.” he added.
Despite the fact that McConnell’s remarks were made several months after he resigned from his position as Senate leader, other members of the Republican Party continue to assert that his voice will continue to be influential for the party in the upcoming legislative cycle.

The fact that McConnell has openly criticized one of Trump’s first choices while he was in office is evidence that he is willing to actively defy the leader of the Republican Party.
In contrast to the fact that very few Republicans have expressed any dissatisfaction with his executive actions, the majority of Republicans have chosen to focus their attention on the decision that former President Biden made to pardon family members in the final hour of his tenure.
Biden’s decision to grant preemptive pardons, according to Trump, made the Democratic candidate look “very” guilty.
