Wednesday, the chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, lauded the record of former president Donald Trump and cautioned Democrats to be more considerate of Trump’s supporters; failure to do so could jeopardize the reelection campaign of President Joe Biden.
Biden has issued the dire warning that Trump and the “MAGA Republicans” imperil American democracy.
“I wish the Democrats would think a little more carefully when they talk about MAGA,” Dimon said during an appearance on CNBC.
He also advised the Democrats to endeavor to differentiate between the most ardent Trump supporters and mainstream Republicans, the latter of which, according to Biden, constitute the party’s majority.
Dimon argued that the term “MAGA” erroneously associates the supporters of Trump with the personality and character of the former president.
“I think this negative talk about MAGA is going to hurt Biden’s election campaign,” Dimon noted.
Dimon, who has previously characterized himself as a pale Democrat but has since contributed to Democratic candidates, made these remarks two days after the former president defeated his few remaining Republican opponents in the Iowa caucuses.
“Take a step back, be honest. He was kind of right about NATO, kind of right on immigration. He grew the economy quite well. Trade tax reform worked. He was right about some of China. He wasn’t wrong about some of these critical issues, and that’s why they voted for him,” Dimon concluded.
