In a recent poll of improbable voters in a fictitious 2024 presidential election, former President Trump reportedly performed better than current President Biden.
About half of the 900 Americans who participated in the Suffolk University/USA Today survey, which was conducted and released on Wednesday, were registered to vote.
Although the poll revealed that voters preferred Trump to Biden, more people chose “other” or “undecided.”
15 percent of unregistered voters said Biden, 27.5 percent said Trump, and about 28 percent either responded “other” (5 percent) or “undecided” (approximately 23 percent) when asked who they would vote for or lean toward at this time.
Around 7 percent chose not to respond, while another 8 percent selected Cornel West of the Green Party.
When the same question was posed to the registered respondents, nearly 13% selected Biden, 32% selected Trump, and a combined total of slightly over 33% selected either “other” (7.25%) or “undecided” (26%) as their answer.
3.5 percent of the same sample said West or declined to comment.
Similar favorable and unfavorable scores were given to Trump and Biden in the poll, but the former president had a tiny advantage.
Biden received about 23.5 percent of the 900 respondents’ favor, while Trump received about 27.5 percent.
52 percent of responded disliked the president, compared to 49 percent of those who dislike the former president.
People between the ages of 18 and 24 (11 percent), 25 and 34 (18 percent), 35 and 49 (28 percent), 50 to 64 (23 percent), and 65 or over (20 percent) made up the group of respondents.
Additionally, they were generally divided into four quadrants, with 21% from the Northeast, 31% from the South, 22% from the Midwest, and 26% from the West.
The group’s party affiliations were nearly evenly split between Democrats (14%), Republicans (13%), and independents (29%) and others (32%) who either declined to respond (12%) or indicated they were not sure (12%).
About 17.5 percent of registered voters said they supported Biden in the 2020 election, 23 percent said they supported Trump, and 54 percent said they did not vote.
The telephone survey was performed from August 19 to 27 and has a 3.3 percentage point margin of error.
