The Secret Service reportedly told a conservative newspaper that marijuana was also discovered in the White House twice in the past year in addition to cocaine.
In July and September 2022, marijuana was discovered in the executive house, according to a Secret Service spokeswoman.
In both cases, the Secret Service stated that the amount of marijuana found “did not meet the legal threshold” for filing criminal charges.
Possession of marijuana under federal law is punishable by up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
President Joe Biden signed an executive order in October 2022 that pardoned everyone who had been prosecuted with marijuana possession under federal law.
The finding of marijuana at the White House coincides with the Secret Service’s announcement that its investigation into the discovery of cocaine on July 2 in the executive mansion’s West Wing was complete.
The absence of “physical evidence” in the inquiry prevented any suspects from being named, essentially marking the end of the investigation.
Prior to the Fourth of July break, while Biden was gone at Camp David, staff members found the cocaine. The West Wing was briefly evacuated as a result of the finding.
