If elected, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) reportedly pledged to make changes to the military that would make individuals “more willing to sign up.”
On Thursday, the former Navy officer made an appearance on Newsmax’s The Chris Salcedo Show to discuss the platforms for his 2024 presidential bid.
DeSantis asserted that the veterans he has spoken to while campaigning have acknowledged they wouldn’t want their kids and grandkids to join the military now.
Instead, should he win the election, the Iraq War veteran vowed to “rip the woke out on day one” of his presidency.
“It’s become a petri dish for social experimentation. They’re putting political fads over military readiness. Morale is in the tank. Recruiting is at a generational low because people want to join a military that’s mission focused. They don’t want to join the military to be a cog in an overall social experiment.” DeSantis said.
“There’s going to be major changes in all the armed services when I become president. I can tell you this: Veterans around the country are going to rally to that, and you’re going to see people more willing to sign up for the military as a result of getting us focused back to the basics.” The Florida governor continued.
DeSantis argued that since the Biden administration has been “very weak,” the United States should become more assertive with China. In order to “deter” the communist nation, he suggested increasing military involvement in the Pacific.
In the race for the GOP presidential nomination, DeSantis is competing against President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and other, lesser known candidates.
He would succeed George W. Bush as the country’s last president with a history of military service if elected.
