President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a new AI-powered website that he says will dramatically simplify the way Americans deal with the federal government, promising to return billions of hours lost every year to red tape and paperwork.
“We are launching today something that is really not just something simply a website,” Trump said at the launch. “It’s a restoration of America’s promise and a reinvention for the 21st century and beyond.”
The new portal, America.gov, is designed to serve as a single digital entry point for the federal government. It will allow Americans to search for information and, eventually, complete services without first having to figure out which department or agency handles their issue. The president promised the website will roll all federal websites into one.
America.gov relies on AI systems including Google’s Gemini and xAI’s Grok, which will let users ask questions and describe what they need in everyday language.
The administration’s goal is to eventually make a wide range of services available through the platform, including passport renewals, Medicare enrollment, federal campsite reservations and student loan information.
Trump cast the project as part of a larger fight against a federal bureaucracy that he said had lost sight of the people it was meant to serve.
“The Declaration of Independence proclaimed that America’s government exists to serve American citizens. For too long. The experience of our citizens has been the exact opposite,” Trump said. “All of that change is starting right now. The government has been broken for many decades.”
The president then highlighted the enormous toll that federal paperwork takes on ordinary Americans.
“Americans spend over 10 billion hours per year on government paperwork. We are giving those 10 billion hours back to the American people,” he said.
Trump stressed that his administration is putting citizens first.
“Under the Trump administration we believe that your time matters and we believe that your goals matter,” he said. “We believe the United States of America should have the ultimate citizen experience of any country.”
Leading the effort is Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, who heads the White House’s National Design Studio. Gebbia told the Wall Street Journal that America.gov serves as a digital “front door” to the government.
The first version of the site went live Tuesday. Deeper integration of individual federal services is expected to roll out over the coming months.
The idea of streamlining the government’s online presence is not a new one. Previous administrations repeatedly ran into frustration as they struggled to rein in thousands of separate federal websites and agency systems that could not work together.
Trump made clear that his administration intends to succeed where others fell short.
“The Trump administration is fixing it,” Trump declared.
With America.gov now live and more services on the way, the administration is betting that a single, AI-driven portal can cut through decades of bureaucratic clutter. For Americans who have spent countless hours navigating a maze of federal websites and paperwork, the president’s message was simple: the government should work for them, and that change begins now.
