President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to congressional Republicans on Wednesday, sharing a lengthy list of grievances claiming the GOP is undermining its chances in the upcoming midterm elections.
Trump posted a July 14 message from influencer Matt Van Swol on Truth Social. The original post listed several developments Trump has highlighted as accomplishments during his second term, including negative net migration and a decline in fentanyl trafficking.
But Van Swol argued that many voters remain deeply frustrated with Republicans because they have not seen the sweeping changes they expected after supporting Trump.
“I don’t think the GOP fully grasp how badly they are f*cking up right now,” Van Swol wrote.
The influencer warned that voters believe there has been no genuine accountability, no mass deportations and no meaningful reduction in the federal deficit. He also accused Republican lawmakers of taking lengthy vacations while failing to pass legislation that would reduce government involvement in Americans’ lives.
“I’m very worried the GOP is sleepwalking toward a midterm reckoning they don’t see coming,” Van Swol wrote.
The post questioned what happened to the promised Department of Government Efficiency cuts and asked why the SAVE Act had not been approved. It also demanded to know why the Taliban had not been defunded and why legislation passed by the House repeatedly disappeared in the Senate.
Van Swol additionally criticized continued government funding for left-wing nongovernmental organizations that he said target MAGA Republicans. He also questioned why some GOP members were pushing for mass amnesty instead of mass deportations.
“People believed they were voting for the Trump agenda,” he wrote, adding that many instead feel they are receiving “the same old Washington.”
Van Swol warned that Republicans could face serious consequences if they fail to produce tangible results before voters go to the polls. By the time party leaders recognize the depth of that frustration, he said, it could already be too late.
Trump has separately argued that public anger is directed at congressional Republicans, not him. During an interview with Punchbowl News earlier this month, the president addressed voter dissatisfaction while facing what the article described as his worst polling to date.
“They’re angry at Republicans, but they’re not angry at me,” Trump said.
The president said he hopes Republican voters participate in the midterms but acknowledged that many are upset with the party.
“The question is will they vote because a lot of them are very angry at Republicans,” Trump said.
Trump has repeatedly voiced frustration with GOP lawmakers over several issues. Most recently, he criticized Senate Republicans for failing to pass the SAVE America Act.
The legislation would impose new restrictions on mail-in voting and require voters to provide proof of citizenship. Some lawmakers have expressed concerns about advancing the proposal with the midterm elections only weeks away.
