President Donald Trump called Monday for late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to be fired, escalating a growing controversy over a joke aimed at First Lady Melania Trump that has drawn sharp criticism from both the president and his family.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump blasted Kimmel’s remarks as “really shocking,” pointing to a segment in which the host used a parody setup involving a fake video of Melania Trump and their son Barron appearing in his studio. Trump emphasized that the video was not real and said his family would never participate in such a setting.

The president took particular issue with a line from Kimmel’s monologue, in which the comedian said, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.” Trump argued that the comment crossed a serious line, especially given the tense environment surrounding the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Referencing the shooting incident that unfolded at the event over the weekend, Trump noted that a heavily armed individual later attempted to enter the ballroom, describing the situation as dangerous and deeply concerning. He framed Kimmel’s remarks as part of a broader pattern of rhetoric that he believes contributes to a volatile atmosphere.

“I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence,” Trump wrote, adding that while he typically would not respond to the host, this instance went “far beyond the pale.” He concluded by urging Disney and ABC to take immediate action and remove Kimmel from the air.

The controversy began with a Thursday night parody skit on Kimmel’s show, which mocked elements of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The event itself, intended as a night of humor and reflection on politics and media, ended in chaos Saturday after the attempted attack.

Earlier Monday, Melania Trump issued her own response in a post on X, condemning the remarks in strong terms. She described Kimmel’s rhetoric as “hateful and violent,” arguing that it contributes to division within the country rather than fostering meaningful discourse.

“His monologue about my family isn’t comedy,” she wrote. “His words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.” The first lady also questioned why figures like Kimmel are given a nightly platform, suggesting that such content brings negativity into American homes.

She further accused the host of hiding behind the protection of his network, claiming that ABC continues to shield him despite repeated controversies. “Enough is enough,” she wrote, calling on the network’s leadership to take a stand and reconsider its support.

Kimmel has faced backlash in the past over controversial jokes, including one involving the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which led to a suspension from ABC.

The latest dispute highlights the increasingly sharp edge of political humor in a deeply divided climate. As tensions rise and rhetoric intensifies, the line between satire and something more serious continues to be debated—especially at a time when real-world violence has entered spaces once reserved for political tradition and public engagement.
