New York Republican Congressman-elect George Santos has reportedly been under significant fire in recent days after it was revealed that he lied about a significant number of key resume points about his professional and personal life during his recent successful congressional campaign.
Santos revealed in an interview with the New York Post on Monday that he lied about working for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and that he did not graduate from college in addition to other lies he told about himself.
Furthermore, Santos acknowledged to embellishing various aspects of his personal life.
However, he went on to claim that these controversies would not distract him from his responsibilities.
Santos claimed to have graduated from Baruch College and New York University with degrees in finance and economics.
In his campaign biography, Santos also claimed to have worked for Wall Street giants Citigroup and Goldman Sachs.
In addition, it was revealed that Santos, who now claims he lives as a gay man, had previously been married to a woman who he later divorced, a fact that previously had not been made mention of.
Santos also apparently promoted false claims that he was descended from Jewish ancestors, a claim which also appears to have been falsified.
“My sins here are embellishing my resume. I’m sorry,” Santos said.
