Stephen Miller, who has been appointed as the deputy chief of staff for policy at the White House, has now reportedly stated that President-elect Trump will direct federal employees to return to the office and refrain from working remotely.
“When Donald Trump is inaugurated on Jan. 20 and that new golden age of America begins, he’s going to tell the federal workers of this country who your viewers pay for to get back into the office and do their jobs or find another line of work,” Miller revealed in a recent Fox News interview.
Trump and his allies, including Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, have prioritized the retention of federal employees in the office.
These executives were appointed by the president-elect to oversee the establishment of a new “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE).
The precise number of federal employees who are not appearing at their place of employment is a topic of debate.
On Thursday, Musk emphasized a report released by the office of Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst (R) that revealed that only 6% of government employees report in-person on a full-time basis, and one-third of federal employees are “entirely remote.”
Musk contended that the actual number of federal employees who report to work could be even lower.
He stated that the percentage of employees who report to work for 40 hours per week on site, excluding security and maintenance, is less than 1%.
In August, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a report that determined that fifty percent of federal employees are ineligible for telework.
Additionally, that investigation determined that sixty percent of federal employees who qualify for telework were functioning at an assigned job site as of May 2024.
During the interview, Miller and Watters emphasized a federal employee who allegedly posted a photograph of himself taking a bath while on the job.
“Grown men should not be taking bubble baths. They certainly should not be doing their work from home in a bubble bath,” Miller remarked
“It’s so emblematic of the contempt that so many people in the swamp have for the people who pay their salaries,” he concluded.
