A former high-ranking California Democrat has now announced that she is transitioning to the Republican Party and intends to vote for former President Donald Trump.

Gloria Romero, who served as the Democratic majority leader in the California state Senate from 2003 to 2008, disclosed her decision during a press conference at the California State Capitol on Wednesday.

“Today, I am leaving the Democratic Party. I stayed for as long as I could. I tried reforms, I spoke out, I voted.” Romero said.

“Today, I say goodbye, adios, I’ve had enough. I am now another near lifelong Democrat who is joining the growing number of people — including key groups, Latinos — who are leaving the Democratic Party.” she continued.

Romero declared that she has converted her voter registration from Democrat to Republican, asserting that the Republican Party has emerged as the “champion of working people” under Trump.

Romero identified numerous factors that precipitated her departure from the Democratic Party, including what she termed “rigged” primaries.

Romero compared the Democratic Party’s tactics to those of Latin American dictatorships, claiming that the party “eradicated” 14 million ballots to install Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee.

Romero, a Mexican American, also criticized Democrats on immigration.

She stated that, despite her long-standing support for pathways to citizenship, she rejects the mockery of citizenship and the opening of the U.S. southern border by Harris and Biden.

Additionally, she referenced widespread inflation and censorship under the Biden administration in her reasons for leaving the party.
