Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) reportedly received uncommon praise from former President Trump on Monday, as he informed an online streamer that the congresswoman possesses “a good spark.”
Trump participated in an interview with internet personality Adin Ross on the Kick platform.
“But in all fairness, but she knows it. She’s got a thing going. But it’s a good thing. Good thing for her. She’s got a spark that’s pretty amazing actually. She’s got a good spark. I’ll change it. I’ll say spark.” Trump said.
During the interview, Ross presented photographs of a variety of celebrities and legislators and inquired about Trump’s opinion of each individual. The former president initially responded with the phrase “Fake” when Ross presented Ocasio-Cortez’s photograph.
According to Trump, the moment Ocasio-Cortez emerged onto the political scene, he was reminded of Eva Perón, the former first lady of Argentina.
He also asserted that he had forewarned aides to former Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.) during his 2018 primary against Ocasio-Cortez that she could pose a political threat. Crowley lost that primary to Ocasio-Cortez.
Trump had previously been alleged to have drawn comparisons between Ocasio-Cortez and Perón by author Tim Alberta.
Trump has consistently denigrated Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive members of the Squad, even instructing Democratic lawmakers to “return” to their countries of origin in 2019.
Since her first election to Congress in 2018, Ocasio-Cortez has been an unwavering critic of Trump. President Biden’s candidacy was terminated in late July, and the delegate expressed her “unwavering support” for Vice President Harris.
