Donald Trump and Elon Musk received support from an unlikely source earlier in the week.
Writing in The Wall Street Journal, Jeb Bush slammed two court rulings against the controversial billionaires, writing, “The U.S. is the business capital of the world in large part because of its robust constitutional system and impartial judiciary. But two unprecedented legal decisions, against Donald Trump in New York and Elon Musk in Delaware, call that into question. In both cases, judges have ordered massive punitive judgments on behalf of dubious or nonexistent ‘victims.’”
Fox News explained Jeb’s thought process.
“Every American has a right to be critical of Mr. Trump’s politics—one of us ran against him in 2016,” reads Bush’s op-ed, titled, “Elon Musk and Donald Trump Cases Imperil the Rule of Law.”
“…But equality before the law is precious, and these rulings represent a crisis not only for the soundness of our courts, but for the business environment that has allowed the U.S. to prosper,” the opinion piece continued. “If these rulings stand, the damage could cascade through the economy, creating fear of arbitrary enforcement against entrepreneurs who seek public office or raise their voices as citizens in a way that politicians dislike.”
The column, which was co-authored by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, railed against the recent monthslong civil fraud trial against Trump, which resulted in a nearly $355 million fine and bars Trump from operating his business in New York for three years. The opinion piece also spoke out against how a Delaware judge recently rescinded tech billionaire Elon Musk’s $56 billion compensation from Tesla.
“If they don’t, blue-state politicians may have the satisfaction of ‘sticking it’ to Messrs. Trump and Musk, but the loss to those states will be significant,” they continued. “The damage to the legal fabric of the country will be even worse. A dispassionate justice system is at the heart of American exceptionalism, and the country will be poorer if we lose it.”
Jeb Bush has long been a critic of Donald Trump, calling him a “chaos candidate” in 2016.
Trump has appealed the ridiculous ruling. Fox News reported that “Trump attorney Christopher Kise teased plans for an appeal when he reacted to the decision earlier this month, saying the court ‘ignored the law, ignored the facts, and simply signed off on the Attorney General’s manifestly unjust political crusade against the front-running candidate for President of the United States.’
‘Legal cases are supposed to be decided based on the application of established legal principles to the actual evidence,” Kise said. ‘During 44 days of trial, not one witness, not one complaint, and not one victim supported the Attorney General’s manufactured claims of ‘fraud.’ Moreover, the evidence established President Trump’s net worth far exceeded what was reported in his financial statements.'”
Many have claimed that Trump and Musk were targeted because they broke the leftwing orthodoxy that has come to dominate the billionaire class.
