An individual who is not a U.S. citizen was apprehended in connection with the killing of 22-year-old University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley.

Sources within the Department of Homeland Security indicate that the individual, identified as an illegal immigrant, was already on law enforcement’s radar.

According to NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley, sources from the Department of Homeland Security revealed that Ibarra is currently residing in the United States without legal status, originating from Venezuela.

Additionally, he was reportedly detained in New York City towards the end of last year but was subsequently let back into the country.

Ibarra was pinpointed as a suspect through the use of campus security cameras, witness testimony, and various investigative methods.

According to the police chief, Laken’s murder seemed to be a spontaneous act rather than a planned one. According to him, law enforcement could not verify Ibarra’s immigration status.
