According to a new poll, in a hypothetical 2024 election, former President Trump defeats Vice President Biden in favor of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., as indicated by a recent poll.
In the most recent Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll, Trump held a 7-point advantage over Biden in a one-on-one comparison (48% vs. 41%).
With the addition of Kennedy, Trump’s lead increased marginally to 8 points. Regarding that fictitious three-way contest, Biden received 33 percent, Trump 41 percent, and Kennedy 18 percent.
With the addition of Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent candidate Cornel West to the ticket alongside Kennedy, Trump’s lead over Biden increased by 11 percentage points to 42 percent to 31 percent.
As many Americans express skepticism regarding a Biden-Trump rematch in 2024, the polling reveals persistent concerns that independent candidates may squander support for Biden’s reelection campaign.
A poll found that nearly two-thirds of voters believe the nation “needs another choice” if Biden and Trump are elected as the nominees of their respective parties this year.
Additionally, 55% of respondents indicated that they would contemplate a “independent moderate candidate” under those circumstances.
The survey was administered to 2,346 registered electors from January 17-18. It is a partnership between the Harris Poll and the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University.
