Last month, the Biden administration reportedly sent over 300,000 smartphones designed to track illegal immigration to noncitizens free of charge.
According to ICE, the cellphones cost taxpayers roughly $361,218.08 a day.
The provision of such cellular devices to illegal immigrants is part of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement scheme that effectively allows the individuals to enter the United States prior to their court dates.
According to the Daily Caller, the ATD program has 91,793 illegal aliens registered in 2020. The program has 136,026 illegal immigrants by fiscal year 2021.
The expensive phone program is reportedly part of a Biden administration initiative which seems to ensure released illegal migrants comply with federal guidelines without actually engaging in the more effective method of utilizing GPS tracking, instead choosing to use the phones to allow the migrants to voluntarily check in with federal authorities.
“This sort of thing is popular among the left. It sounds great but the reality is that people in these programs will likely never be [deported]…There’s nothing at the end of these programs. If they don’t report in, that’s that. They’re now a fugitive.” former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Ron Vitiello confessed in a recent interview with the Washington Free Beacon in which he described the program.
The program, in addition to being extremely expensive for taxpayers, allows illegal migrants to freely roam the U.S. until their court dates, which they are expected to voluntarily return for.
A previously leaked memo from ICE that was obtained from Fox News indicated that there are approximately 1.6 million illegal immigrants currently roaming the United States who have scheduled immigration hearings and are not currently being detained by federal authorities.
