In a sharply worded post on Monday, President Donald Trump reportedly criticized Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Democrat of Texas, calling her “slightly dumber” than the progressive members of what he labeled the “AOC Plus Three Gang” and urging her, along with other left-wing lawmakers, to take a cognitive exam.

“Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is a Low (Very!!!) I.Q. Individual, much in the mold of the AOC Plus Three Gang of Country Destroying Morons – Only slightly dumber,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. The “AOC Plus Three” reference is his oft-used moniker for Democratic Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.

In the post, Mr. Trump described the four — plus Ms. Crockett — as “political hacks” and said they should be “forced to take a Cognitive Exam,” noting that he himself had recently completed one while undergoing his “physical” at Washington, D.C.’s Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

“As the doctors said, ‘President Trump ACED it, something that is rarely seen!’” he continued, asserting that the Democratic lawmakers “would all fail this test in a spectacular show of stupidity and incompetence. TAKE THE TEST!!!”

The president’s remarks came after Ms. Crockett earlier this month directed an expletive-laden attack at him during an appearance in Phoenix, where she told a cheering crowd, “Listen, Donald Trump is a piece of [expletive], OK? We know that. Yes, yes! He is, he is! But in a functioning democracy, he still would not be able to get away with this.”

Mr. Trump’s rebuke of Ms. Crockett reflects his broader strategy of seizing on controversial statements made by his political opponents to frame them as out of touch with the electorate and unfit for office.

His insistence on the value of cognitive testing is a recurring theme — one that he has previously used both to highlight his own mental acuity and to question the competence of Democrats in Congress.

Supporters of the president point to his record of leveraging direct, unscripted communication to bypass traditional media filters and deliver sharp criticisms of political adversaries in terms that resonate with his base.

Critics, including members of the Democratic Party, have accused him of relying on personal attacks and inflammatory language to distract from substantive debate.

For Mr. Trump, the exchange with Ms. Crockett is likely to serve as another rallying point in his campaign to frame Democrats as ideologically extreme and incapable of governing.

By contrasting his own claim of “acing” a cognitive exam with his assertion that key members of the progressive wing would “fail … in spectacular” fashion, the president sought to underscore what he portrays as a stark competence gap.

Trump now appears poised to continue challenging Democratic lawmakers directly, drawing sharp lines between his vision for the country and what he calls the “country destroying” policies of the far left.
