On Election Day morning, President Donald Trump injected himself into New York City’s mayoral race with a fiery post on Truth Social, denouncing Democratic Socialist Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani as a “proven and self-professed JEW HATER” and urging Jewish voters to reject him.

“Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!” Trump wrote Tuesday, doubling down on a message that linked Mamdani’s rhetoric on Israel and Hamas to what he described as dangerous extremism. The president’s statement came just one day after he effectively endorsed former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent in a bid to reclaim political relevance and lead New York City from City Hall.

Mamdani, a progressive state lawmaker representing Astoria, has long drawn criticism for his refusal to condemn Hamas directly after the October 7 terror attacks on Israeli civilians. His statements suggesting moral equivalence between the NYPD and the Israeli Defense Forces, along with a public vow to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he ever visits the city, have fueled accusations of antisemitism from Jewish leaders and political opponents alike.

For Trump, who has frequently clashed with left-wing politicians over their stance on Israel, the confrontation marks another chapter in his ongoing campaign to court Jewish voters while calling out what he views as hypocrisy within the Democratic Party. He has previously accused Jewish Democrats of betraying their faith, arguing that “any Jewish person who votes for a Democrat or votes for Biden should have their head examined.” In past remarks, he even suggested that Jewish voters would share responsibility if he lost re-election, and has mocked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as a “Palestinian.”

In a separate Truth Social post Monday night, Trump framed the mayoral race as a referendum on New York City’s future, portraying Mamdani as a “Communist Candidate” whose victory would guarantee economic collapse and civic decline.

“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home,” Trump wrote. “As a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival! It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad.”

He added that Mamdani’s “principles have been tested for over a thousand years, and never once have they been successful,” calling him “nothing as an Assemblyman” and “ranked at the bottom of the class.” Trump urged voters to “vote for [Cuomo] and hope he does a fantastic job,” warning that a vote for Republican Curtis Sliwa would only help Mamdani.

“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice,” Trump concluded. “He is capable of it, Mamdani is not.”

The comments underscore Trump’s ongoing effort to recast himself as both defender of Jewish voters and critic of far-left politics — and to once again make his voice impossible to ignore in New York City’s turbulent political arena.
