Donald Trump, the President of the United States, reportedly fulfilled a pledge that was at the core of his 2024 campaign by signing an executive order on Wednesday that prohibits transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
According to a document on the executive order that was obtained by ABC News from the White House, the order will establish comprehensive mandates on sex and sports policy.
Additionally, it will direct federal agencies, such as the Department of Justice, to interpret federal Title IX rules as prohibiting the participation of transgender girls and women in female sports categories.
The order, which is titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” will direct state attorneys general to identify best practices for enforcing the mandate.

It will also mandate immediate enforcement, including against schools and athletic associations that “deny women single-sex sports and single-sex locker rooms,” as stated in the document regarding the mandate.
At the signing ceremony, Trump vented his frustration with what he referred to as “transgender lunacy.” He was surrounded by female athletes for the occasion.
According to a senior administration official, the White House anticipates that sports organizations such as the NCAA will modify their rules in conformity with the directive after it has been signed.
According to sources, President Trump signed the executive order on Wednesday afternoon during a signing ceremony that included players, coaches, and advocates who have campaigned against transgender participation in women’s sports.
The event was attended by around sixty individuals, one of which being Riley Gaines, a former participant in the University of Kentucky swimming program.
If universities do not comply, the White House has warned them that they will not only be subject to legal action but also to the possibility of losing government money.
