President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that ongoing international tensions and the demands of the presidency could prevent him from attending his eldest son’s wedding this weekend in the Bahamas.

Speaking during an Oval Office press conference, Trump was asked whether he planned to attend the Saturday wedding ceremony for Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée, Bettina Anderson.

“He’d like me to go. It’s going to be just a small little private affair,” Trump said. “I’m going to try and make it.”

The president then referenced the growing international situation involving Iran and the political pressures surrounding it.

“I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things,’” Trump remarked. “That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend I get killed — by the fake news of course I’m talking about.”

Trump added that he has known Anderson for years and expressed hope that the couple would have “a great marriage.”

According to reports from Page Six, the wedding is expected to take place over Memorial Day weekend on a private island in the Bahamas in front of a small gathering of family and close friends. The event is reportedly designed to be intimate rather than extravagant, despite the high-profile nature of the Trump family.

The report also stated that the couple had at one point considered holding the ceremony at the White House. However, concerns reportedly emerged over how such a celebration might appear publicly while conflict involving Iran continues to dominate headlines.

A source quoted by Page Six said the couple understood that “a lavish wedding at the White House while people are dying wouldn’t be well-received.”

The remarks reflect the difficult balancing act facing public officials and political families during times of international conflict. Even personal milestones can quickly become political flashpoints as Washington remains consumed by foreign crises and military tensions overseas.

Earlier this year, Anderson was celebrated at an “enchanted garden”-themed bridal shower held at Mar-a-Lago, according to the report. The event was attended by several members of the Trump family, including Ivanka Trump, Lara Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Marla Maples, along with Don Jr.’s daughter, Kai Trump.

Page Six also reported that Anderson comes from a prominent Palm Beach family. Her mother, Inger Anderson, is known for philanthropic work, while her father, Harry Loy Anderson Jr., was a banker.

Don Jr.’s relationship with Anderson followed his reported split from former fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle in 2024. Trump later appointed Guilfoyle to serve as U.S. ambassador to Greece.

The family has also faced personal challenges in recent days. Don Jr.’s ex-wife, Vanessa Trump, who is currently dating Tiger Woods, revealed this week that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is undergoing treatment.
