One of the biggest names in conservative media is taking on a new job. In a surprise, President Donald Trump announced that Dan Bongino, a conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent, has been appointed as the new Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This announcement follows the confirmation of Kash Patel as the FBI’s new director, signaling a major shift in the bureau’s leadership under the Trump administration.
Trump praised Bongino’s qualifications on Truth Social, calling the decision “great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice.” He emphasized Bongino’s “incredible love and passion for our Country” and expressed strong confidence in the new leadership team, which also includes newly appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi. Trump declared, “Fairness, Justice, Law, and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly.”
Dan Bongino brings a wide-ranging and accomplished background to the role, according to Fox News. He holds a master’s degree in psychology from the City University of New York and an MBA from Penn State University. His career began with the New York Police Department before he transitioned to the U.S. Secret Service, where he served as a special agent assigned to the prestigious Presidential Protective Division. In recent years, Bongino shifted his focus to media, gaining national recognition as a conservative podcaster and a former Fox News host. This diverse experience equips him with a unique perspective as he steps into a pivotal law enforcement role.
President Trump acknowledged the personal sacrifices Bongino is making to accept this role, noting that Bongino will be stepping away from a successful media career to serve the nation again.
“What an incredible job Dan will do!” Trump remarked, also recognizing Bongino’s strong family values, mentioning his wife, Paula, and their two daughters. Following the announcement, Bongino expressed his gratitude, thanking President Trump, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel for their trust in his abilities.
This leadership change follows the narrow 51-49 Senate confirmation of Kash Patel as the FBI’s ninth director. Patel, a former national security official and close Trump ally, has been an outspoken critic of past investigations involving the former president. During his confirmation hearings, Patel assured lawmakers that he would not pursue political retaliation against agents who participated in previous investigations, including those related to classified documents involving Trump. However, Patel’s appointment has sparked criticism from those concerned about the potential politicization of the FBI under his leadership. With heightened political tensions surrounding the bureau, all eyes will be on Bongino and Patel as they steer the FBI’s future direction.
The appointments of Bongino and Patel mark a significant turning point for the FBI. Their leadership is expected to reshape the bureau’s priorities and influence its operations in the coming months.
