Far-right activist Laura Loomer reportedly met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Wednesday, where she urged him to dismiss several members of his National Security Council (NSC).
Following their meeting, Trump reportedly acted on her suggestions the next day, leading to a purge within the team.
According to reports, Loomer arrived at the White House armed with a collection of opposition research targeting various NSC officials, which she presented while attacking their character and loyalty in front of national security adviser Michael Waltz.
Loomer expressed her concerns about specific staff members, including Alex Wong, the deputy national security adviser, who has faced scrutiny after a communications mishap involving sensitive military information.
Waltz, already under fire from critics, may struggle to shield his staff from potential terminations following Loomer’s unprecedented influence in the meeting.
Trump has exhibited some sympathy for Wong in past discussions, creating further tension around the situation.
On Thursday, reports emerged confirming that multiple members of the NSC had been fired, although it remains unclear whether these dismissals were directly tied to Loomer’s recommendations.
Sources familiar with the situation indicated that the firings were perceived as an “anti-neocon move” in response to Loomer’s frustrations about certain hawkish figures within the administration whom she believed had bypassed the vetting process.
Loomer, known for her controversial viewpoints—including celebrated deaths of migrants and conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11—has faced backlash for her provocative statements.
Recently, she voiced her displeasure at being denied a media seat in the White House briefing room despite considering herself more “high-profile” than other applicants.
