President Donald Trump delivered a scathing rebuke to both Israel and Iran on Tuesday morning, accusing each of undermining a fragile ceasefire that had barely lasted the night. The president’s frustration—made all the more acute by the collapse of a deal he had championed only hours earlier—was evident as he addressed reporters on the White House lawn before departing for a NATO summit in the Netherlands. “These two countries have been at each other’s throats for so long, it’s like they’ve lost all sense of reason,” Trump said, visibly irritated. While he stopped short of declaring the ceasefire breach deliberate, he made clear his intention to pressure Israeli leaders to halt any further military operations.

Minutes later, Trump took to Truth Social in an all-caps message aimed squarely at Israel: “ISRAEL, DO NOT ATTACK IRAN. THIS IS A SERIOUS BREACH. BRING YOUR PLANES BACK NOW!”
He followed with another post claiming Israeli warplanes were “turning around” in response to his demands. The president’s public warnings followed reports that Iran had launched fresh attacks on Israeli targets early Tuesday morning, shattering a ceasefire Trump had described the night before on NBC News as “possibly permanent.” In retaliation, Israeli military leadership reportedly prepared a significant counterstrike, prompting Trump to intervene. “I’m not happy that Israel took action this morning,” he told reporters as he boarded Marine One. “I’m working to put a stop to it.”
Politico noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are engaging in “ongoing conversations.”
“The president wants cooler heads to prevail, and we do as well,” the Speaker of the House said.
Johnson said he had reached out to his Israeli counterpart, the speaker of the Knesset, to echo “our plea to them not to retaliate and not to escalate.”
