President Donald Trump launched another broadside at CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins this week, branding her “very dumb and unhappy” in a lengthy Truth Social post that also took aim at the network’s ratings and credibility.
“Very dumb and unhappy Fake News CNN ‘reporter,’ Kaitlan Collins (really low ratings, also!), had a panel where discussions were all FICTION AND LIES,” Trump wrote. “You would think that CNN, which is suffering terribly in the TV Ratings, would get rid of their 3rd rate ‘anchors,’ and try to bring credibility back to their once storied network. It is fading FAST!”
The post followed a special “Countdown to Election Night” edition of Collins’ show “The Source,” which aired ahead of November’s midterms and featured a panel of Republican and Democratic-aligned strategists and reporters discussing the state of the races. During the broadcast, Republican strategist Doug Heye criticized Trump for not spending more of his political war chest on GOP candidates, saying, “Donald wants to spend money on himself. He doesn’t want to give things away.”
Trump’s latest attack continues a pattern of personal jabs at Collins. In December, he called her “Stupid” and “Nasty” on Truth Social. In June, he described her as a “corrupt reporter” with “hatred in her eyes” during a fiery Oval Office exchange, criticizing her for what he characterized as never smiling. He revived that line of attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in July, telling Collins to “smile” and comparing her to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, before posting a doctored image days later depicting her as Mulvaney.
A CNN spokesperson pushed back on the president’s latest remarks, telling reporters that Collins is “an exceptional journalist, reporting every day from the White House and the field with real depth and tenacity,” adding that she “skillfully brings that reporting to the anchor chair and CNN platforms every day, which audiences around the world know they can trust.”
