On Thursday, President Trump reportedly announced that he plans to travel to Fort Knox, which is located in Kentucky, in order to inspect the nation’s gold stockpiles.

“I’m actually going on this one. All my life I’ve heard about Fort Knox. That’s where the gold is kept,” Trump said.

“We’re getting a little bit shaky. We’re getting the yips on this stuff. Like I want to find out. We’re going to open up the doors. I’m going to see if we have gold there. Did anybody steal the gold in Fort Knox?” he added.

This comes in response to a call from Elon Musk and a number of Republicans to launch an investigation into the facility.

As a result of the encouragement of Republicans like as Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) and Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), Musk has been advocating for an investigation of Fort Knox and spreading unsubstantiated rumors that gold reserves are missing from the site.

In an interview that took place not too long ago, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that there is an annual audit of Fort Knox and that all of the gold is present and accounted for.

Fort Knox has been where the nation’s gold reserves have been kept for many decades. It also plays host to the largest annual training event that the Army holds every summer.

According to the United States Mint, there are presently 147.3 million ounces of gold stored at Fort Knox. This amount of gold is equivalent to approximately half of the gold held by the Treasury Department.
