Progressive podcaster Jennifer Welch is calling for an investigation into President Donald Trump’s family members, including his youngest son, Barron.
Welch, a podcaster and author, sat down with journalist Jim Acosta at a Politics and Prose event to discuss her new book and her frustration that Democrats have not stood up more firmly to the Trump administration.
Welch said she was furious that Democrats voted for Trump’s cabinet nominees in his second term after the events of Jan. 6. Acosta chimed in, arguing that Democrats backed nominees they viewed as moderating forces, only for Trump to wage a war in the Middle East anyway, something he had said he would not do.
Welch then went further, naming several members of the president’s family as targets. She said she wanted Barron, Jared Kushner and Tiffany Trump investigated, along with two others she mockingly labeled “Dumb and Dumber,” adding, “I want them all investigated. Every single one of them investigated.”
The remarks are not the first time Welch and Acosta have floated sweeping legal action against Trump and his allies. The pair previously said that if Democrats win both chambers of Congress, Trump and those around him would face major repercussions, with Welch claiming they “commit crimes every day.” Acosta suggested at the time that Democrats should pack the Supreme Court to roll back presidential immunity.
Trump allies have long warned that Democrats would weaponize the justice system against them if they regain power.
Welch, host of the “I’ve Had It” podcast, has a history of incendiary remarks. In an earlier appearance on Acosta’s podcast, she branded Trump’s MAGA movement an “anti-family, pro-pedophilia death cult.” Those comments came one week after a suspected shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner allegedly targeted Trump because he believed the president was a pedophile and rapist.
More recently, Welch drew backlash from conservative commentators over a video in which she used the phrase “pistols firing” while urging continued opposition to Vice President JD Vance. Some social media users called on law enforcement to look into the comments, though no criminal investigation or Secret Service statement had been reported.
Barron Trump has faced scrutiny from congressional Democrats in recent months. Rep. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., has pressed for him to appear before the House Oversight Committee over his reported role in connecting Andrew and Tristan Tate to his father’s political orbit during the 2024 campaign, and formally asked Oversight Chairman James Comer to open an investigation.
Welch’s latest comments arrive just days before the November midterm elections, as Democrats look to retake control of Congress.
