Broadcaster Piers Morgan is urging President Donald Trump to reject calls to expand the conflict with Iran, singling out conservative commentator Ben Shapiro after the podcast host argued the United States should respond far more aggressively to Iranian attacks.
In a post on X Friday, Morgan called on Trump to bring the conflict to an end as quickly as possible rather than extending military operations.
“President Trump needs to ignore these lunatic warmongers and get the US out of this insane Iran war asap,” Morgan wrote.
His post included a video clip from Shapiro’s podcast in which the conservative commentator discussed what he believes Americans expect from military conflicts and argued for a more forceful response to Iranian aggression.
In the clip, Shapiro said many Americans are frustrated because the conflict appears to have reached a stalemate and has become increasingly complicated.
“I get why people are confused and upset,” Shapiro said. “It feels like things are stalemated, that they’re getting broader, and more difficult.”
According to Shapiro, the American public wants decisive outcomes rather than prolonged conflicts.
“The American people want victory,” he said.
Shapiro argued there is a mistaken belief in foreign policy circles that Americans are primarily concerned about the immediate cost inflicted on enemy nations or that they are unwilling to tolerate the realities of war.
He said Americans do not want U.S. military casualties and view them as tragic, but they understand that war can involve losses when pursuing what he described as victory for the United States.
Shapiro also dismissed concerns about avoiding strikes that could disrupt Iranian oil resources.
Using Iran’s Kharg Island as an example, he argued Americans are more focused on winning the conflict than on preserving the enemy’s economic assets.
“I think the way we actually ought to do is say ‘an eye for everything,’” Shapiro said.
He then outlined what he described as an appropriate response to an Iranian attack on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Shapiro, if Iran were to strike a ship in the vital waterway, the United States should respond by targeting the leadership of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iran’s leadership.
“One drone, and that’s what happens,” Shapiro said, adding that such an approach is how conflicts are won in the Middle East and more broadly.
Morgan strongly disagreed with that position, using his social media post to argue against further escalation and instead urging Trump to end U.S. involvement in the conflict.
The broadcaster has repeatedly voiced opposition to extending the war and has criticized public figures who have encouraged a more aggressive military strategy.
Morgan has also publicly criticized Fox News host Mark Levin over the conflict, describing him as a “war hawk” and accusing him of encouraging Trump to “finish” off Iran.
The latest exchange highlights the growing debate among commentators over the administration’s handling of the conflict, with some arguing for a more forceful military campaign while others contend the United States should move to end its involvement.
Morgan’s remarks came as discussions continue over the future of the conflict, with differing views emerging over whether the United States should intensify military operations or seek to bring the fighting to a close.
