MAGA activist and influencer Laura Loomer sharply criticized Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday after news broke that he would appear on Megyn Kelly’s program to promote his new book, Communion, arguing that the decision sends the wrong message at a time when Kelly has been openly critical of President Donald Trump and his administration.
The dispute erupted after Kelly’s show announced an upcoming interview with Vance focused on the vice president’s recently released book. Loomer quickly responded on social media, expressing disbelief that a senior member of the administration would agree to appear on a platform she views as increasingly hostile to Trump and the broader MAGA movement.
“Bizarre,” Loomer wrote in a post on X while sharing the announcement of the interview.
She followed that reaction with a lengthy criticism of Kelly, questioning why Vance would choose to sit down with a media figure who, in Loomer’s view, has repeatedly attacked the president and undermined his administration.
Loomer pointed to Kelly’s recent commentary regarding the administration’s handling of the conflict involving Iran, an issue that has created debate among conservatives and prompted renewed concerns about America’s role in overseas confrontations. While many Republicans support Trump’s leadership, discussions surrounding foreign policy and military involvement have exposed divisions within parts of the conservative coalition.
According to Loomer, Kelly has gone far beyond policy disagreements.
She accused Kelly of repeatedly criticizing Trump, claiming the commentator had suggested the president was “losing his mind,” declared that MAGA was effectively finished, and made other comments that Loomer described as damaging to the movement.
Loomer also referenced several other controversies involving Kelly, arguing that the commentator has given attention to narratives and criticisms that she believes unfairly target Trump and his administration.
Calling the interview “terrible optics,” Loomer questioned the judgment of anyone who advised the vice president to appear on the show.
“Whoever told our VP this was a good idea is leading him astray,” Loomer wrote, adding that she was expressing her concerns respectfully but sincerely.
The criticism reflects Loomer’s increasingly influential role within Trump-world during the president’s second term.
In recent months, Loomer has built a reputation for aggressively targeting individuals she considers insufficiently loyal to Trump or the MAGA movement. She frequently publishes opposition-style research and criticism aimed at administration officials, political operatives, and other figures within conservative circles.
According to the report, Trump has at times acted on Loomer’s recommendations, including making several high-profile personnel changes involving national security officials.
Kelly, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the administration’s more vocal conservative critics in recent months.
While some of her criticism has focused on foreign policy matters and the administration’s handling of the conflict involving Iran, she has also directed criticism at Trump personally.
The article notes that in late May, Kelly defended Trump critic Joe Kent after what she characterized as a personal attack against him. During that discussion, Kelly questioned Trump’s moral character and referenced allegations and controversies from the president’s personal life.
Kelly specifically cited Trump’s relationships and marriages while arguing that he was in no position to attack others on moral grounds.
She also referenced claims made by Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, in the past, while acknowledging that Ivana later retracted those allegations when Trump was running for president.
The dispute highlights the increasingly public disagreements occurring within conservative media and political circles. While supporters of the administration generally remain aligned behind Trump’s broader agenda, divisions have emerged over strategy, foreign policy, media allies, and the direction of the movement.
Vance’s appearance on Kelly’s program appears set to place him directly in the middle of that ongoing debate, even as his stated purpose for the interview is promoting a book focused on faith and personal reflection rather than political infighting.
