Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk issued a dire warning to voters Friday. He said that handing Democrats full control of Washington would lead to “the end of democracy” in the United States.
In a series of posts on X, Musk laid out what he called his “biggest concern.” That concern is a “clean sweep” by Democrats of the House, the Senate and the White House in 2028.
Musk wrote that, with such a trifecta, Democrats would make Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico states in order to lock in a strong Senate majority. He also said they would open the borders and legalize people living in the country illegally to cement a permanent majority. Musk also warned that Democrats would expand the Supreme Court.
“This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word,” Musk wrote.
He told his followers that this is why they should vote for Republican senators in next week’s midterms. All other reasons, he said, are irrelevant by comparison.
In a separate post, Musk added that it “would be game over for America.” Hours earlier, he had posted that Democrats would carry out what he described as a plan to end democracy if they gained control.
Several prominent conservatives amplified the warning. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., replied that this is exactly what Democrats would do. Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino urged his followers to read Musk’s post.
The billionaire has thrown his considerable financial weight behind Republicans this cycle. He has spent nearly half a billion dollars supporting GOP candidates in the 2026 midterms, much of it through America PAC, the group he founded during the 2024 election. Musk spent about $290 million helping Trump and Republicans in that race.
Musk signaled his return to GOP politics on New Year’s Day. At the time, he posted that America would be “toast” if the radical left won. His relationship with Trump had cooled after he left the Department of Government Efficiency last year. The two have since patched things up, with Vice President JD Vance reportedly playing a key role in bringing them back together.
Musk’s latest warning comes as Republicans face a tough political environment heading into Tuesday’s elections. Polling averages show Democrats leading on the generic congressional ballot. A recent CBS News model projected that Democrats could win about 229 House seats, which would give them a majority.
Democrats have dismissed Musk’s predictions as fearmongering, and some critics have called his claims wildly overblown. Proposals such as D.C. statehood and expanding the Supreme Court have been floated by some Democrats in recent years, but neither has become law.
Earlier this month, Musk also warned Democrats about possible congressional investigations if they win the House. He wrote, “live by the sword, die by the sword.”
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
