A prominent Canadian real estate executive and his two adult daughters were shot, and his wife was beaten with a hammer, after three masked men stormed their gated home in one of Toronto’s wealthiest neighborhoods early Thursday morning.

The violent home invasion unfolded around 3:45 a.m. on Hyde Park Circle in the exclusive Bridle Path area, near Bayview and Lawrence avenues, according to Toronto police.

The victims were identified in media reports as David Morton, 75, CEO of the MAC Group, a family-owned Toronto company; his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, the company’s president; and their daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton.

Toronto Police Inspector Kristy Smith said the suspects, armed with handguns and a hammer, forced their way into the five-bedroom home through a rear door and confronted the family inside.

Morton and his daughters fought back against the intruders, who were wearing ski masks and hoodies, according to reports. During the struggle, gunfire erupted. Morton and one daughter were shot in the leg, while the other daughter suffered a gunshot wound under her arm.

Doriana Zohil-Morton was struck by one of the hammer-wielding suspects.

All four family members were taken to the hospital. Police initially described two of the injuries as life-threatening.

“There was a violent interaction. There was a demand made for valuables from within the home,” Smith told reporters, adding that it was unclear whether the suspects got away with anything.

Smith said police had no information indicating the home had been specifically targeted. The suspects fled the scene in an SUV, and no arrests have been announced. Police have not released descriptions of the men.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said she was deeply troubled by the attack and was praying for the family’s full recovery. She urged anyone with information to come forward and promised an increased police presence in the neighborhood.

The Bridle Path is widely regarded as one of the most affluent and secure enclaves in Canada. The home invasion took place just a few streets from the estate of rapper Drake, where a security guard was shot in 2024. Police said they were not suggesting any connection between Thursday’s attack and the earlier shooting.

The attack is the latest in a string of violent home invasions in the Toronto area that have rattled residents and fueled debate over crime and the right of homeowners to defend themselves.

In September 2025, Abdul Aleem Farooqi, a 46-year-old father of four, was shot and killed in his Vaughan, Ontario, home after confronting three masked intruders. Ontario Premier Doug Ford later voiced support for homeowners who protect their families.

Toronto police said the investigation remains ongoing.
