Political analyst Brit Hume reportedly praised President Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress, calling it one of the most effective speeches he has witnessed in his five decades of political coverage.
Hume noted that the speech was the longest, most boisterous, and most partisan he had ever seen from a president in such a setting, asserting that it solidified Trump’s status as a significant political figure.
“This was the most boisterous, the longest, the most partisan speech I’ve ever heard a president give in this kind of setting, and I go back about maybe 50 years on this. I also think it may have been the most effective. If you ever doubted that Donald Trump is the colossus, the political colossus of our time and our nation, this night and this speech should’ve put that to rest.” Hume said.
During the address, Trump highlighted personal stories and achievements from his administration, breaking the record for the longest address to a joint session of Congress at one hour and forty minutes.
He recognized individuals such as January Littlejohn, whose daughter was “secretly transitioned” by her school, and the family of Laken Riley, a young woman tragically killed by an illegal immigrant.
An emotional highlight was when Trump made 13-year-old brain cancer survivor Devarjaye “DJ” Daniels an honorary member of the U.S. Secret Service.
Hume went on to criticize the behavior of some Democrats during the speech, particularly noting the disruptive actions of Representative Al Green, who was removed from the chamber for heckling.
“The Democrats seem to be falling into trap after trap after trap as he recognized people and celebrated the people he pointed to in the gallery and their stories, while the Democrats sat glumly on their hands through all of that. It was a terrible look. Al Green’s attempt to disrupt the speech was a bad look for the Democrats. This was pretty powerful stuff, politically speaking, as powerful as I think I’ve heard.” he continued.
Many Democrats remained seated and silent during key moments, holding protest signs, which Hume described as a poor reflection on the party.
He concluded that the speech demonstrated Trump’s commanding presence in contemporary politics, reinforcing his reputation as a formidable figure in the political landscape.
