During the times that he’s mentally acute enough to do so, Joe Biden reportedly continues to regret his decision to leave the 2024 presidential race and insists that he would have defeated Donald Trump. According to sources cited by The Washington Post, the president has privately shared his conviction that he was still capable of winning, even after a widely criticized debate performance and dwindling party support forced his exit.
The June 27 debate proved to be a turning point for Biden’s campaign. His performance sparked a wave of concern among Democratic leaders, including Nancy Pelosi, who ended up forcing the president to step aside. This pressure, combined with a sharp decline in donor contributions, left Biden with limited options. On July 21, he officially suspended his campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
Congressman James Clyburn, a longtime Biden ally, previously highlighted a disconnect between Biden’s leadership style and the political demands of the current era, wrote Fox News. In discussions with Biden earlier this year, Clyburn reportedly emphasized the mismatch, suggesting that style, not substance, had played a key role in the president’s challenges.
According to multiple outlets, Biden still privately expresses remorse over appointing Attorney General Merrick Garland. While Garland was chosen as a consensus candidate, Biden has reportedly felt frustration over what he perceives as delays in prosecuting Trump and the aggressive legal pursuit of his son, Hunter Biden.
The president recently granted his son a decade’s worth of pardons, which has led to some in the media to call him a national disgrace. Recent photos from a decade ago, withheld by the National Archives until after the election, revealed that Joe Biden lied about never meeting his son’s Chinese business partners while serving as vice president to Barack Obama.
